Houselessness: How Parking and Mobility Bring Policy and Community Together

Join the Midwest Parking and Mobility Association (MPMA) for a conversation on houselessness and the role parking and mobility professionals play within it.

As communities continue to reexamine how they support individuals experiencing houselessness, parking leaders are increasingly part of that dialogue, balancing compassionate, community-focused approaches with policies and operations. This session brings together municipal and university perspectives to explore where parking and mobility management can make a meaningful impact while continuing to support access, safety and mobility for all.

We'll discuss:

  • Where parking and mobility intersect with houselessness in real-world environments

  • How parking agencies are balancing policy requirements with community-focused approaches

  • Operational challenges and considerations for frontline teams

  • Lessons learned from municipal, university, and civic leadership perspectives

  • Practical ways parking and mobility professionals can contribute to broader community outcomes

Presented by:

  • Matthew Muckenthaler, Parking Division Manager, City of Kansas City

  • Mark Rummel, Associate Director of Transportation, City of Iowa City

With perspectives from:

  • Hannah Adeponu, Parking and Mobility Manager, City of Omaha

  • Josh Henges, Houseless Prevention Coordinator, City of Kansas City

  • Gabe Mendez, Director of Transportation Operations, University of Wisconsin - Madison

Date and Time:
Wednesday, May 28
1 p.m.
